Brgy. San Isidro does it first!

MARIVELES, Bataan – Barangay San Isidro of this municipality is the first barangay in the province to pass and implement an ordinance on the Barangay ID system and computerized Residential Database.

According to Brgy. Kagawad Jorlie Garcia, the Sangguniang Barangay of San Isidro led by Punong Barangay Omar Cornejo passed Barangay Ordinance no. 03-2016 primarily to facilitate the monitoring of the residents in their barangay that will be an important tool in maintaining peace in order.

With the presence of the Freeport Area of Bataan (FAB) in their municipality, population swell due to the demand for labor force in the industrial establishments. However, akin to population growth is also the rise in criminality.

With the Barangay ID system, it will now be easier to distinguish the permanent residents of the barangay from the temporary ones. Classified as permanent residents are those who are legitimate voters in their place and therefore they are entitled to be issued a barangay ID.

While those who are new to the place, most of whom are employed at the FAB, are required to report to the barangay office, register, have their photo taken so as to be included in the Residential Database.

The barangay officials believe that aside from easy monitoring, this system will deter some personalities from engaging in prohibited acts or even committing crimes for they know that their photos and relevant information are in the barangay database system.

In fact, in one of his visits to San Isidro, 2nd District Representative Joet Garcia lauded this initiative and even said that he will share this concept to the other barangay leaders in other municipalities in his district.

Registration in the barangay database is compulsory for all residents, permanent or temporary; while the issuance of the ID is not.
