Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Fortunato dela Pena, a native of Bataan, led the 3-day regional National Science and Technology Week celebration held at the Vista Mall Activity Center, Balanga City with the theme “Science for the People: Enabling Technologies for Sustainable Development”.
During the opening deremonies, Sec. Peña handed to Balanga City Mayor Francis Anthony S. Garcia a check of more than one million pesos to complete the P2.13 million fund for the construction of a science high school in Balanga City with the Local Government Unit sharing in P885,340 and the Department of Education P132,400.
Secretary dela Peña expressed his views on the growing confidence from foreign and local investors of seeking to put up technically-based manufacturing firms to improve competitiveness in the world market.
With enhancing innovative capacity, locators have projected sustainable development and world–class resources to improve its production to top-level competitiveness in the global markets.
Likewise, Peña said he was happy that other agencies of the government and other stakeholders are partnering with DOST and contributing research money to continuously achieve modernization scheme.
He cited the importance of technology that will aid businessmen being prepared by various schools in the country that DOST is constantly promoting. “Pipilitin nating pakinabangan ito ng ating mga kababayan kahit negosyante o ordinaryong mamamayan man,” dela Pena said.
He said that even DOST supports thousands of scholars, it will mean nothing if there are not enough opportunities for them in the country.
“Baka mag-abroad lamang sila. Kailangan ang tayo’y magkaroon ng mga kumpanya na nangangailangan ng tao na may training sa technology, engineering at science kaya ang attractiveness natin for investments ay napakahalaga,” dela Pena said.
