BALANGA CITY, Bataan – Two Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU) campuses in Abucay and Bagac towns formally opened yesterday their digitized libraries adopting the Science and Technology And Research-Based Openly-Operated Kiosks (STARBOOKS) capability of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
Jerwin Vianzon, science research specialist of DOST-Bataan, said without requiring internet connections, the STARBOOKS contains huge volume of digitized science and technology resources such as journals, updated serial publications, reference materials for business and engineering, scientific reports, theses and dissertations, technical and project reports which would further strengthen the expertise of researchers, educators and students of the state university.
He said the DOST has allocated P 280,000 for the two-computers, soft ware materials and state of the art facilities through its grant-in-aid program of uplifting the familiarity and awareness of the students to digital library operations.
The two newly outfitted digitize libraries have other top of the line features known as Tamang DOSTkarte livelihood videos intended for entrepreneurs in upgrading their production and marketing of local products.
Vianzon stressed the installation of digitized library is another milestone in technology development in the countryside.
He said it would greatly enhance the information technology in the academic sector and community with global high-tech linkages.
The BPSU is the third institution benefitted by STARBOOKS in the province, the other two are Dra. Victoria B. Roman High School in the upland village of Pantingan, Pilar town and Dinalupihan High School, both in year 2014.
