BALANGA CITY, Bataan- Governor Albert Raymond S. Garcia has requested the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) for the installation of 34 hydrometeorological devices such as the Water Level Monitoring Stations (WLMS) ,Automatic Rain Gauges (ARG) and Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) in the eleven towns of Bataan and in this City.
Garcia wrote Victor Mariano, Regional Director of the DOST in Central Luzon, as part of the local government’s disaster risk reduction management plan for disaster prevention and mitigation and to minimize if not eliminate perennial flooding in the Province. He cited that the local government units will shoulder the expenses in the construction of the perimeter fence for the security of the equipment as well as the maintenance of the facilities.
Garcia said the installations of various equipment would adequately monitor the volume and duration of rainfall ,wind direction, wind speed ,temperature, humidity and air pressure. “Eleven towns and Balanga City are located along the Manila Bay and the West Philippine Sea and these equipment are vital sources of information for the residents during rainy days as well as in the implementation of safety preparations “, Garcia said.
DOST Regional Director Victor Mariano, however, said before endorsing the request of Governor Garcia to the Advance Science and Technology Institute (ASTI-DOST) the implementing agency for the hydrometeorological project, the DOTC will determine the feasible locations for the weather devices.
Governor Garcia has instructed the Provincial Engineer’s Óffice to closely coordinate with the local government units on the proposed sites where these devices will be installed or located.
