ORANI, Bataan – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 1st Engineering District has explained that the newly-completed half-kilometer concrete dike was built for slope protection and flood control purposes not as ordinary road for residents of Sitio San Raphael, Barangay East Calaguiman, Samal town, this province.
Engineer Erlindo Flores, Jr. district engineer, has clarified the function of the dike during a press conference held the other day at his office that the Calaguiman dike is not classified as a mega dike with appropriate spaces for the conveniences of motorists and residents.
The DPWH engineer reacted to the appeal of the residents to undertake structural renovation of the flood control dike for the protection of the residents who are reportedly susceptible to accident especially elementary students on their way home .
Residents have sought the widening of the narrow and risky passageway constructed over the concrete dike at East Calaguiman river for the safety of the residents.
A resident said there are about 1,000 individuals in 116 houses who make use of the path on the dike when going to school, marketing, and other activities.
A number of elementary pupils had suffered bruises and minor injuries when they accidentally fell while crossing the wet section of the dike during rainy days.
The residents are opting to seek the assistance of municipal executives and the Sangguniang Bayan to construct alternative route which they can safely avail in going in and out of the village.
