


BALANGA CITY, Bataan- Gov. Abet S. Garcia congratulated Monday the delegation from the Department of Education- Bataan, for winning second over all the other provincial delegations in the 2013 Central Luzon Regional Athletic Association (CLRAA) Meet held at Zambales Sports Complex, Iba, Zambales from December 8-13, 2013.
Bulacan, the biggest province in Region 3, landed first winner in the CLRAA.
During Monday’s flag raising ceremony, Gov. Garcia also lauded the leaders of the 400-strong members of the Bataan delegation headed by the Schools Division Superintendent, Dr. Tarcila P. Javier, together with OIC-ASDS Dr. Carolina S. Violeta and EPS-I MAPEH, Mr. Ramon C. Perez, for giving high moral support and strong leadership in sports activities, giving Bataan the victory.
At the same time, the bachelor governor also gave credence to the winners in Regional School Press Conference (RSPC) where a number of students from Secondary won in writing contest for every RSPC competition in the region.
In the CLRAA meet, Bataan scored a total of 291.75 points in all the awards garnered by its athletes, placing Bataan students second in the final rank. The elementary athletes earned a total of 143.34 while the secondary level athletes earned a total of 148.41.
Bulacan gathered a total of 540.33 points. One of its students, however, was dead after he was hit severely in the boxing competition.
DepED-Bataan had consistently improved its rank over the years, from 4th place in 2012 to ranking third in CLRAA (Summer 2013) and now, with merely eight months in between, Bataan has carved its niche at CLRAA Meet.
Reports showed that a total of 57 gold, 63 silver and 59 bronze medals were accumulated over the five year period by DepED-Bataan.
Among the sports event in the CLRAA meet were basketball for boys (elementary), gymnastics (elementary and secondary), table tennis for boys (elementary) and arnis (elementary and secondary).
Basketball for girls (secondary) badminton,, swimming, taekwondo, lawn tennis, volleyball, among others.
The winners will represent Region III in the forthcoming Palarong Pambansa come May 2014 which will be held at Sta. Cruz, Laguna, it was learned.
