Farming and fishing as noble jobs

BALANGA CITY, Bataan – The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) in partnership with the Department of Agriculture (DA), Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), farmers and fisherfolks from different municipalities held the 1st Bataan Farmers and Fisherfolks Congress with the theme: “Pansakahan at Pangisdaan: Sama-samang Paunlarin Tungo sa Masagana at Likas na Pagkain” at La Vista Inland Resort, yesterday, June 27.
In welcoming the participants from the different municipalities of the province including the guests from the national agency and other concerned offices, OPA Officer-in-charge Engr. Johanna Dizon explained that the purpose of the congress is to give due recognition to the farmers and fisherfolks in the province and at the same time to remind them that farming and fishing are noble jobs.
BFAR Representative Romina Yutuc commended the farmers and fisherfolks for if not for them, the world will not have anything to eat. She also mentioned that they are the backbone of the Philippines for they are the producer. “Don’t wait for the time when fish can only be seen in pictures and not in our ocean,” she added. The congress also include lectures and orientation on food safety, improved farming practices on organic agriculture, and biotechnology 101.
