BALANGA CITY, Bataan – In celebration of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the Treatment and Rehabilitation Center (TRC) in Pilar, headed by Dr. Liz Pizarro- Serrano presented a stage play entitled “Bulong ng Adik”, a short story about a simple and happy family shattered by drugs, last July 4 at the Bataan People’s Center, this City.
Another highlight of the event is the testimonials of former drug dependents who have fully recovered thru TRC Bataan and are now leading normal lives.
The guest of honor at the celebration, Chairperson of the Dangerous Drugs Board, Secretary Catalino S. Cuy said that DDB is the primary policy making and strategy formulating body as well as the law enforcement agency with regards to campaign against drug abuse. He added that they are now working on a new strategy in their anti-illegal drug campaign: first is “supply reduction” -that is to remove the substance from the market and second is “demand reduction” part of which is public awareness effort, to reach out to the public to inform them on the dangers of illegal drugs like what the stage play portrayed..
For his part, Governor Abet Garcia expressed his gratitude to all the staff of TRC Bataan as well as all the residents who played the different roles in the stage play. In his message, he emphasized “….kung naligaw man ng landas ang ating mga kapatid ay may pag asa pa itong magbago, para sa ating mga kabataan, sana ay huwag nang subukan pa na maligaw ng landas at higit sa lahat, kung anuman ang maging problema natin sa buhay, sa pamilya, sa school, sa barkada, sa komunidad at iba pa, ay huwag na itong pabigatin pa ng droga.” The Governor urged all the students to finish their studies, be obedient and be the pride of their parents.
The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is an effort of the United Nation, aimed at strengthening action and spreading awareness about drug abuse and illegal trade around the world.
