‘Freedom Run, Trail highlight Mariveles role in history’

BALANGA CITY, Bataan – Mariveles Mayor AJ Concepcion assured full support to this year’s Bataan Freedom Run and Freedom Trail  as he pointed out the twin events highlight the historical role of his town during World War 2.

“Aside from rekindling heroism, Bataan Freedom Run and Trail bring to consciousness the historical significance of Mariveles”, said the young mayor during the press conference at the capitol. n“We will provide all the logistical support for the success of these events”, he added.

Mariveles is the starting point of both events. The town is also one of the two starting points of the infamous Death March.

For his part, Bataan Gov. Abet Garcia said, “These events can be the springboard to rediscover the role of Bataan during World War 2 especially for the young generation”.

The Bataan Freedom Run in Mariveles is on April 2 with 5 categories: 42 km, 21 km, 10 km, 5 km, and 1 km.

The Freedom Run is the 160 km race for runners and distance bikers retracing the Death March route from Mariveles, Bataan to Capas, Tarlac slated on April 10-11.

The staging of the two race events is in time for the 75^th year anniversary of the Bataan Death March.
