MARIVELES, Bataan – Iglesia Filipina Independiete (Mariveles) commonly called as Aglipayan Church, commemorated the 119thPhilippine Independence Day with activities aimed to rekindle nationalist and patriotic spirit.
Parish Priest Roderick Miranda and Parish Council led church members in conducting the activities held at the Iglesia Filipina Independiente church compound (Mariveles) and People’s Park in Barangay Poblacion.
“The only part of the 1896 Philippine Revolution that is still with us is the Iglesia Filipina Independiente”, Parish Council member and Mariveles Chess Club president Louie Ramos, who educated chess players before the start of the round robin blitz tournament held at the church compound.
The chess tournament was dubbed aptly responding to President Duterte’s war against illegal drugs, “Ahedres, Kalayaan sa Droga”.
Bataan Peninsula State University top chess player, Joselle Moreno emerged champion beating rival Manila campaigner Jimson Linda and Mariveles top chess players. The top 10 winners received medals and cash prizes.
“We hope to see you again this September and invite other chess players too; we will hold another tournament”, announced Parish Priest Miranda.
