Iskolar ng Bataan offers TESDA scholarship for OSYs, ALS graduates

BALANGA CITY, Bataan – Vice Governor Cris Garcia on Thursday distributed checks to 30 out-of-school youths (OSYs) and Alternative Learning System (ALS) graduates belonging to the first batch of TESDA scholarship beneficiaries under the Iskolar ng Bataan program.

The checks or credit advice will be paid by scholars to training centers where they are enrolled, and will also cover NC II assessment fee.

A week ago, the vice governor, representing Gov. Abet Garcia welcomed the 5,654 new college scholars during the Iskolar ng Bataan General Assembly and Orientation for School Year 2018-2019.

Before becoming vice governor, Garcia was the original coordinator of the Iskolar ng Bataan and Gurong Iskolar ng Bataan. She now serves as adviser of the scholarship program.

Iskolar ng Bataan coordinator Ramon Canas said the TESDA scholarship is to be implemented for the first time this year 2018. He added 100 slots are available for the first batch.

The 30 scholars who received their checks will take instrumentation course. Other TESDA courses available are welding, industrial sewing machine, and electronics.

He said the provincial government also has scholarship programs for teachers, PUP Mariveles students, and Aetas.

The late Governor Tet Garcia and then 2nd district congressman currently Gov. Garcia hatched in 2005 the Iskolar ng Bataan program benefitting ever since thousands of college students in the province.
