Limay municipal port mulled

LIMAY, Bataan – Mayor Lilvir Roque is opting to convert a 10-hectare coastal area here into a municipal port to provide an alternative route to the heavily-congested four-lane Roman Superhighway and as a revenue–generating project of this industrial town.

Mayor Roque explained the exigency of the project  which the local authorities see as a vital blueprint  of the town’s socio-economic development scheme with high-pitched  economic impact with the expected arrival of investors at the Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan (AFAB) in Mariveles town and expansion of Limay industrial zone  next year.

Citing latest statistics, Roque said the inflow of more locators at AFAB and extension of industrial facilities in the area of Limay may result to unmanageable traffic jam while utilizing the stretch of Roman Superhighway while carrying their products out of the Bataan peninsula.

The proposed municipal port facilities would accelerate the systematic ferrying or movement of goods and services to be more convenient, faster and safer for containerized shipping rather than using the circuitous land-based transports, Roque said.

The three-termer local executive foresees a feasible solution to the big volume of motor vehicles specially cargo trucks, oil and liquefied gas tankers passing the province’s major road network with the operation of the municipal port.

More than 600 heavy and light vehicles, both private haulers and transport firms are using the Roman Superhighway daily, from Hermosa to AFAB in Mariveles.
