A memorandum of agreement (MOA) was recently signed by Limay Municipal Government, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), and Petron Bataan Refinery for a 30-hectare Limay Reforestation project under the aegis of “Petron Puno ng Buhay” program for the rehabilitation of forest in two of the country’s wealthiest towns. The other rich municipality is in the neighboring Mariveles.
Limay, host to the country’s largest and only oil refinery, is both an agricultural and a fishing municipality but many of its residents in remote villages depend their livelihood in planting root crops, fruits and vegetables and selling their produce in public markets and Kadiwa Center.
The MOA signing was led by DENR Secretary Raphael Lotilla; Bataan Board Member Angelito Sunga; Christian Torio, special assistant to Limay Mayor Richie Jason David; Lubin B. Nepomuceno, chairman/CEO of Petron Foundation; Emmanuel Erana, Petron SVP/CEO and PFI president; and Jaime Dayap, chairman of Samasaka, a non-government organization supporting concerns of local farmers and the environment.
