MARIVELES, Bataan – The yearly staging of Mayor AJ Chess Cup in this fast-rising industrial town has become a venue for local players to hone their chess skills against top-rated players from other places particularly Manila.

“Chess development in our town is at its peak with the support of our leaders Mayor AJ Concepcion, Vice Mayor Lito Rubia, and SB members”, said Mariveles Chess Club (MCC) President and Tournament Organizer Engr. Louie Ramos.

“We also cite the support of Municipal Administrator Russel Maninang and Civil Registrar Rosseler Romero”, he also said.

“With the AJ Cup, our players are able to cross swords with highly rated chessers some with master level strength”, he explained.

“It dwells well with our ambition to ultimately produce a chess master from Mariveles”, he also said.

“Personally, I thank our leaders particularly Mayor AJ for trusting  MCC to yearly organize the AJ Cup”, he said.

Recarte Tiauson, former top player of University of St. La Salle, won the Mayor AJ Chess Cup a week ago.
