ORANI, BATAAN — Mayor Benjie Serrano, Jr. of this first-class town the other day led the formal opening ceremony of inter-Bataan commercial basketball league 2014 at the Orani Multi-Purpose Gym.

Serrano was joined by his wife Mylene Alonzo-Serrano, Vice Mayor Bong Galicia, members of the municipal council, youth groups and barangay officials.

Bataan League of Municipalities President and Dinalupihan Mayor Gila Garcia served as guest of honor. Geraldine Roman represented Bataan First District Congresswoman Herminia Roman in welcoming the guests and visitors. Fourteen teams from the different towns of the Province will compete in the annual basketball tournament.

“Bilang isang pulitiko, at galing ako sa Sangguniang Kabataan gusto ko i share sa lalawigan ng Bataan ang mga pagbabago sa Orani lalo na ang sports facilities,” Mayor Serrano told newsmen. Serrano cited some of the latest infrastructure developments in his town namely the multi-purpose gymnasium beside the municipal hall which is the site of different sports and formal activities and other buildings inside the municipal compound that house some of national government agencies like the Commission on Elections, the Bureau of Fire Protection and the Philippine National Police.

“If Dinalupihan has its own civic center and Balanga or the province has it’s own People’s Center we have our multi-purpose gymnasium,” Serrano added.

The Orani People’s Park, or the town plaza is also considered as one of the loveliest plazas in the province, was also completed during Serrano’s first term as the town’s chief executive.

Serrano, a third termer mayor, also said that he focuses more on sports development of the youth sector for them to avoid being hooked on drugs and other vices.

Meanwhile, the event also coincided with the launching of the Mutya ng Orani in line with the celebration of Orani town fiesta or the Feast of Nuestra Senora Del Rosario on October 12, 2014.

The coronation night for the Mutya will be on October 9 at 6p.m. at the Orani Multi-Purpose Gym.
