2013 Pawikan Festival

MORONG, BATAAN-The Pawikan (sea turtles) Festival in Barangay Nagbalayong of this municipality is set on December 1, 2013 with World Wildlife Fund (WWF) ambassadors Rovilson Fernandez and Marc Nelson as special guests to grace the festivities.

The WWF advocates to build a future in which human needs are met in harmony with nature.

The annual event was organized to intensify the information campaign and generate public awareness on the importance of the endangered Olive Ridley sea turtles (Lepidochelys Olivacea) in our eco-system.

The said turtle specie is considered as the second smallest in the world (Kemp’s Ridley is the smallest and reportedly in a brink of extinction) that weighs 75 to 100 pounds (34 to 45 kilograms).
