ORANI, Bataan – The Sangguniang Bayan (municipal council) of Orani heard on a Monday regular session the explanation of Prime Water Infrastructure why there had been water problem in Sitio Legua in Barangay Pag-asa, Orani. The Orani SB headed by Vice Mayor Em Roman asked the Primewater officials led by Operations Manager John Michael Mago to explain why a water lack exists in the said sub-village of Legua. Mago said the water firm is now exploring the possibility of tapping water source from nearby river to adequately supply the water needs of less than 700 residents of the village. He told the municipal council that the Primewater conducted its own investigation why the water scare in the area and found out that there was no more aquifer in the area. “Based on our georesistivity study, we found bedrock after 40 meters, kaya hirap po kami sa area nay un,” explained Reyes.
SB Member Tonton Reyes, committee chair of public utility, transportation and communication, said the Primewater likewise told the council that the low water pressure in the town proper of Orani was traced to some leaking old pipes along the lines from the water source. The Primewater vowed to remedy the problem as soon as possible. As to the issue of minimum charge against the consumers, Councilor Reyes asked Primewater if it was possible to totally scrap it, but Mago explained it cannot be done “because it will go against guidelines provided for under the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) mandate.” The consumers’ option is to disconnect the water supply but a reconnection fee will be charged later.
