Organic farming in Bataan, urged

BALANGA CITY, Bataan- A-wholesale vegetable trader operating in Bulacan is encouraging local farmers to convert their rice fields into more productive organic vegetable farms amid scarcity of irrigation waters brought by the El Niño phenomenon.

Leonardo David, a well-known agriculturist and land developer in Bataan, said Bulacan businesswoman, Paris Uy, president of Live Green International Incorporated, has been conducting seminars to farmers in the province about the advantages and profitability of organic vegetable business.

Speaking on the benefits of innovative organic vegetable procedures, David said Ms. Uy is ready to finance the farm inputs of the participating growers who would engage in cost –effective and highly saleable agricultural crops.

Likewise, David is preparing to venture into organic vegetable scheme in his 5.5 hectare land situated in Barangay Tuyo, this city, and even offering them as demonstration farm for interested farmers willing to shift from the traditional palay field.

The unprecedented popularity of organic vegetable in the market is reportedly noticeable with healthy diet assessment findings and great taste result from the government food and agricultural agency, David added.
