Orica Philippines touches lives

LIMAY, Bataan What started to be an ordinary day at the Carbon Elementary School in Lamao of this town, turned extraordinarily special. A turnover ceremony held on the 6th day of March made an indelible mark in the hearts of the students, teachers and parents.

“Wow! May bago akong upuan. Mas komportable na akong mag-aral.” These are the statements of a student in expressing his awe and gratefulness to the Orica Philippines Limay Site for extending their helping hands to the students and teachers of Carbon Elementary School by providing them tables, chairs, cabinets, IT equipment, LCD Projector and the repainting of the school buildings.

Helping in uplifting the literacy of the students is just one of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Programs of Orica Philippines. “Hopefully these items will be able to help the students para maiangat nila ang buhay nila in the future,” a statement from Engr. Philip de Jesus, QSHEC and Security Lead of Orica, and the Vice Chairman of Multi-Sectoral Governance Coalition (MSGC) of Bataan. He is also one of the focal persons for this project in Lamao, Limay, Bataan.

Part of the initiatives of the Province under the Performance Governance System (PGS) Program is to encourage locators to embark on CSR Projects as one way of giving something back to their communities.

Limay Schools District Supervisor, Dra. Minerva P. Rillo warmly welcomed the guests during the ceremony. In his inspirational message, Orica Philippines OIC Site Manager, Engr. Victor Cabunilas said, “Hangad namin bilang isang kompanya na magampanan ang aming responsibilidad na makapag-ambag bilang kabahagi sa aming komunidad. Sa araw na ito, ang Orica Philippines ay tutugon sa mahalagang misyon na nagbibigay halaga sa ating mga kabataan.”

Carbon Elementary School Principal, Ms. Rowena M. Lisud, Brgy. Carbon Councilor Sabas Irangan, the PTA President and the Student Council President likewise delivered short messages to express their heartfelt gratitude. Ms. Emi Marjorie Gabinete, Sustainability Advisor of Orica and Mr. Faustino Carag, PNOC Security Supervisor also facilitated the said event.

This positive gesture of Orica Philippines definitely added more meaning to the lives of the students and teachers in CES not to mention the fact that once again, images of people with golden hearts who are willing to help others have a brighter future has taken a concrete shape.

To Orica Philippines, CES says “thank you” coupled with an earnest prayer that may God bless you more abundantly so that you can continue touching more and more peoples lives.
