OWD run raises P116K reforestation funds

ORANI, Bataan – The Orani Water District (OWD)-sponsored run for a cause on Saturday has raised P116,960.00 funds to be used for its reforestation project.

“The amount is 24 percent higher than what we raised last year”, messaged OWD General Manager Benni Andres. “The participating runners reached 2,445, which is 11 percent higher compared in 2015”, he added.

The water district started five years ago its reforestation project in the 28-hectare watershed area in upland Barangay Tala this town. For the last 4 years, OWD had planted the area with more than 39,000 seedlings.

The funds raised last Saturday will be used in the Tala watershed reforestation activity in August.

OWD has been conducting the run every February on the occasion of its anniversary for the past 16 years but the fund-raising for their reforestation project started only 5 years ago.

Andres earlier said that their reforestation efforts for the Tala watershed area aims to preserve the aquifers under it. “We have to protect and preserve our source of water by reforesting watershed areas”, Andres stressed.
