BALANGA CITY, Bataan – The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Bataan Chapter recorded the highest amount of blood collected in a single mass donation activity in the province.
PRC Bataan OIC Charlie Gatbunton Jr. said they have collected a record high of 329 blood units during their recent mass blood-letting activity held at the Barangay San Jose covered court this city in observance of July as Blood Donors Month. A blood unit contains 450 cc of blood.
He said municipal and rural health units, Iskolar ng Bataan Balanga, companies in the province, Bataan Peninsula State University, and religious groups joined the mass blood-letting activity. In the same activity, PRC recognized LGUs, companies, schools, and groups for their support and contribution. He added there are those who received national awards while others received local awards.
Gatbunton, a native of Barangay Puerto Rivas Ibaba this city, was assigned for 11 years in PRC Olongapo City where he rose from ranks due to his diligence and dedication. A medical technologist by profession, he became quality control officer,and finally OIC of PRC Olongapo, He was assigned to PRC Bataan as OIC February this year.
Among the PRC Bataan Board of Directors who attended the mass blood-letting activity are Angelita Cruz (Chairperson), Cynthia Balan-Guevarra (Board Secretary ), Adelaida Nuestro (Treasurer), Rolando Andrade (Auditor), Dr. Glory Baltazar, Board Member Jose Villapando Sr., Arch. Nick Rubiano, Dr. Irma Mendoza, Pastor Luis Cruz, Rudy De Mesa, Dr. Fanny Malonzo, Dr. Roberto Luneta, and Dr. Rosario Acuna. Other members of the Board are Dr. Tarcila Javier, Atty. Aurora Maranon, Engr. Willy Mallari, Engr. Janet Nero, PS Supt. Flynn Dongbo, Dr. Mart Banzon, and Engr. Edwin Zaldivar.
