PSA Bataan conducts Women in Workplace lecture

CITY of BALANGA, Bataan – As part of 2015 National Women’s Month Celebration, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) -Bataan) conducted a Women in Workplace lecture held at the PSA Conference Hall, Tenejero, this City on March 16, 2015 at 1:00PM.

SPO2 Gilda R. Candido, Women’s Desk Officer of PNP Pilar, Bataan discussed RA 9262 and RA 9032. “Juana, Desisyon Mo ay Mahalaga sa Kinabukasan ng Bawat Isa, Ikaw Na” which is this year’s theme of the 2015 National Women’s Month served as premise for the lecture, which calls for women empowerment and making a stand.

Ms. Ledesma L. Morante Provincial Statistics Officer, PSA Bataan was overwhelmed by the participation of various private and government agencies such as Provincial Planning and Development Office, Bataan General Hospital, PagIBIG Fund, Avon Balanga and other Local Government Units. Mr. Joselito V. Diego of DOLE – Bataan delivered an overview of labor practices and emphasized the parts that concern women. Richard T. Guevara, PSA Bataan Staff delivered a short talk on Laws of Women in Labor which included an update in RA 10151.

Francisco P. Corpuz, Statistician – PSA Bataan presented sex aggregated statistics of the 2010 Census Housing and Population. Earlier that day, there was a Public Utility File (PUF) Training conducted among PSA staff, where data of Mr. Corpuz’s presentation were derived.

SPO2 Candido pushes women empowerment advocacies through educating women about their rights. R. A. 9262, also known as Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children (VAWC) Act of 2004 seeks to address the prevalence of violence against women and children abuses by their intimate partners like husband or ex-husband, live-in partner or ex-live in partner, boyfriend/girlfriend or ex-boyfriend/ex-girlfriend, dating partner or ex-dating partner. The Act classifies violence against women and children (VAWC) as a public crime.

R. A. 9028 also known as Anti Trafficking Act of 2003 is an Act to institute policies to eliminate trafficking in persons especially women and children, establishing the necessary institutional mechanisms for the protection and support of trafficked persons, providing penalties for its violations.

R. A. 10151 of 2011 is an Act allowing the employment of night workers. This amends the Labor Code by repealing Articles 130 and 131 thereof.
