REHABILITATION of river and waterways in Limay, Bataan is a must, according to Raul H. Mamac, provincial environment and natural resources officer (Penro).

Mamac said the former garbage dumpsite of Limay which was used by the past administration of said town had to be closed down because of effluents flowing to river and waterways thus posing health hazard to residents and plants.

The dumpsite was visited in May last year by Undersecretary For Solid Waste Management and Local Government Unit Concerns Benny Antiporda and ordered its closure for environmental violations.
Mamac said the DENR is now actively pursuing its mandate of river clean up campaign in various parts of Bataan to protect water source and marine lives. During a recent news briefing, he said the DENR Bataan had ben successful in carrying out environment campaign including the clean-up drive in Balanga Wetland Park.
