Samal Municipal Civil Registrar Josefina E. Cortez personally received, in behalf of the Municipal Mayor Generosa M. Dela Fuente, the award from PSA National Statistician and Civil Registrar General Lisa Grace S. Bersales. The Samal Civil Registry Office bested more than 700 local civil registry offices in extra small category. This national award, which is selected out of more than 1,500 city/municipalities, is divided into 5 categories –extra large, large, medium, small and extra small.
Prior to that, MCR Josefina E. Cortez earlier garnered 5th place 2012 Outstanding Civil Registry Office – Extra Small Category given at the awarding rites of the same event on August 5, 2014. Both awards recognize the civil registry office’s outstanding performance and delivery of civil registration programs and activities through trainings and information dissemination on civil registration and mobile registration activities.
The other awardee from the Province of Bataan is the City of the Balanga, headed by City Civil Registrar Marilyn C. Cruz, which placed 3rd Outstanding Civil Registry Office – Extra Large Category in 2012 and 2013.
The 7NCWR with this year’s theme “Ikaw at Ako Tungo sa Wastong Pagrerehistro” provides venue for exchange of idea and sharing experiences for the city/municipal civil registrars, mayors, members of judiciary and other stakeholders. The workshop includes lectures and update in the civil registry laws. The Bataan delegation to 7NNCWR is composed of the city/municipal civil registrar in the province. Regional Director Edgrado G. Pare of PSA- National Statistics Office Region III also attended the event.
PSA carries out, enforce and administer civil registration functions in the country as provided for in Act 3753, while local civil registry offices file, keep and preserve civil registry records as per archival system mandated by the Local Government Code. At the provincial level, most of the civil registry activities of the local civil registry offices are in coordination with PSA- Bataan Provincial Office.
