SEN. CYNTHIA VILLAR COMMENDS DOST FOR EMPOWERING AGRICULTURAL SECTOR

The 3-day National Science and Technology Week Celebration of Central Luzon held at the Vista Mall, Balanga City is truly commendable according to the message of Senator Cynthia Villar, Chairperson of the Committee on Agriculture and Food, Environment and Natural Resources, which was read by Vice Governor Cris Garcia.

Senator Villar’s message emphasized that the latest innovation in technologies, products, and research, particularly in food security, biodiversity, contribute to poverty alleviation in the countryside.
A firm believer in the importance of research and development, Sen. Villar believes that there is a direct correlation between food security and environment protection, hence the need for sustainable agriculture considering our country is frequently affected by extreme weather disturbance such as strong typhoons, draught,El Nino/La Nina and others that climate resiliency should really be on top of our agenda.

A staunch supporter of Agricultural Mechanization” Villar also believes that incorporating research and development in the agricultural sector will help improve agricultural mechanization efforts, that based on studies, two of the barriers confronting farmers, fisherfolks and agricultural workers are lack of technical expertise and mechanization.
On the legislative side, Villar promised that she will support the agricultural innovation which she noted is the law she authored in the previous 17th Congress, R.A. no 11203, the Rice Tariffication Law, An Act Liberalizing the importation, exportation and trading of rice.
Senator Villar added that in the bill she has authored,she made sure there is allocatoin of adequate funds forresearch and development for further training and education of farmers, fisherfolks and agricultural workers, making agriculture sustainable, making farmers more competitive and profitable through advanced technology process and innovations.
