BALANGA CITY, Bataan – Sen. Joel Villanueva who authored RA 11058 “An Act Strengthening Compliance of Occupational Safety and Health” on Thursday lavishly praised Bataan province for having the highest level of compliance with occupational safety and health standard set forth in the said law during the summit.
The summit on occupational safety and health was attended by more or less 2,000 workers. contractors and office managers. It was the first of its kind to be held in the country and Bataan was chosen as its launching pad given the fact that Bataan had 1.4 million safety man hours for the “The Bunker” project.
The Bunker or the one-stop shop government center is situated in the heart of Bataan provincial capitol compound. It is scheduled for inauguration soon, reliable sources said.
Sen. Villanueva said the law crafted by him with former Congressman Tet Garcia, and other senators like Nancy Binay is some kind of a boon both to workers and employers because it will give them an atmosphere of safe and healthy work place that would result to improved and greater productivity.
Violators of RA 11058 will be fined P100,000, he said. Implementing rules and regulations of the said are yet to be publicized through DOLE’s department order No. 198-18.
Ciriaco Lagunsad, DOLE undersecretary, salutes the provincial government of Bataan for having initiated the summit. “With this law, workers are now confident their right safety and health at the work place are protected. Together we can go forward as a nation,” he said.
Meanwhile, Bataan Vice Gov. Cris Garcia said the Sangguniang Panlalawigan will adopt the RA 11058 through a provincial ordinance consistent with the implementing rules and regulations.
