BALANGA CITY, Bataan –Senator JV Ejercito, Committee on Health chairman at the Senate, during the 76th founding anniversary of the Bataan General Hospital where he was guest speaker, committed without hesitation to support the upgrading of the Bataan General Hospital to a General Hospital and Medical Center.

It will be noted that it was Congressman Joet Garcia of the 2nd district of Bataan, who assiduously pursued the upgrading of BGH to further expand and enhance its services and enable it to achieve its vision of becoming the leading medical multi-specialty center in central Luzon by 2022.

According to Congressman Garcia, House Bill 6521, an Act “Upgrading the Provincial Hospital in the province of Bataan into level 3 teaching and training hospital to be known as, The Bataan General Hospital and Medical Center, and appropriating funds therefore, was introduced in Congress in July of 2016 and was approved on third reading last October 9, 2017 with a bed-capacity of 500.

Since this has to be concurred at the Senate, he asked the help of Senator JV Ejercito being the Chairman of the Committee on Health, who said in his message that, ‘you have my word, that I will work on your request to upgrade the BGH to Bataan General Hospital and Medical Center, the soonest time possible, by January 2018.” He expressed further that, it was already mid-year when he got the chairmanship of the health committee, that all he can do at the moment is to insert amendments to the budget.

Senator Ejercito also said that in going around the country as Chairman of the Health Committee, he had seen the different government hospitals having more than 200% occupancy; patients are already along the corridors, and this is what he wants to address as Health Committee chairman; the “overcrowding” of the hospitals, for our patients to be given the best medical attention they need.

He emphasized though, that in the next two to three years, he will be able to help improve hospital facilities enhancement programs thru infrastructures as a solution to the over capacity problem of our government hospitals.

The good Senator even said that, he cannot say “no” to his good friend Governor Abet Garcia way back during their Congress days, adding the fact that BGH is performing very well as a government hospital, it deserves to be upgraded to level 3 and be called a medical center. Hopefully by next year’s budget, “maisama na natin ang infrastructure to solve overcrowding,” the Senator said.
