BALANGA CITY, Bataan – First district Board Member Benjie Serrano commended farmers in the province for adhering to a provincial ordinance prohibiting the burning of rice straws and other farm wastes.
“We are very satisfied that farmers in the barangays of Bataan are following the ordinance”, said Serrano, Sangguniang Panlalawigan Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture.
“With the provincial ordinance, farm wastes are being converted into something useful like organic fertilizer aside from preventing pollution”, he added.
He joined Gov. Albert Garcia, Congresswoman Geraldine Roman, Provincial Agriculturist Imelda Inieto, other government officials, and farmers during the celebration of Provincial Achievement Day of the Bataan Agriculture Office held at the capitol compound.
Inieto said the governor was overwhelmed by the success of the event not to mention the positive response of the people to the ordinance, showing that Bataeños are law-abiding citizens.
She added that 4 barangays in the province were awarded Best Barangay Adopter of the provincial ordinance, who received a multi-purpose shredder and P10,000 cash each.
