Singapore’s best practices

BALANGA CITY, Bataan – The Bataan Media Delegation’s recent visit to Singapore to meet top officials of the Ministry of Communications and Information (MCI), not only gave them the opportunity to observe how Singapore MCI is employing inventive approaches to prepare for the future and bring the Smart City concept to life.

The Bataan delegation was fascinated with the the urban renewal that Singapore had undergone, making Singapore the smallest country in the world yet the most progressive.

Noting the cleanliness of the environment, the tour guide informed the delegation of the do’s and don’ts in Singapore, such as it is prohibited to litter, to smoke, to spit, to drink and eat..in public places.

In terms of transportation, the group did not observe smoke belchers, no traffic because people stop and ride on designated stations, at MRT’s, no long queues, very spacious, clean, quiet, very disciplined people.

What’s more amazing is that, policemen are not visible because cctv’s are all around, in every nook and every corner, that if you throw something on the street, in a matter of minutes you’ll be approached by a policemen for the violation and pay a fine.

Plants and trees abound even in malls and in the airport and they even built two large domes for people to see a rainforest and enjoy the different varieties of flowers.

Singapore is currently focused on their cyber security, because if information is the lifeblood of a modern economy, then cyber security in hyperconnected Singapore is its immune system. Cyber security according to them is an enabler to Singapore’s Smart Nation ambitions that technology, is only useful when it is secured and can be trusted.

These and more are the reasons why many government officials travel to Singapore to observe and learn from its best practices in different aspects of life, investments and infrastructures.
