BALANGA CITY, Bataan – The provincial government is continuously developing a comprehensive program for a friendly and healthy ecological atmosphere to neutralize the adverse effect of high-level economic growth.
Governor Albert Raymond S. Garcia said the establishment of another 600 MW coal-fired power plant in the proposed new special economic zone in the coastal village of Biaan, Mariveles town, is of strategic importance to the fast emerging industrial hub in Central Luzon.
The first coal-fired plant in Mariveles, GN Power in the coastal village of Saysain, is about 20 kilometers away from the San Miguel Corporation, the new fast growing energy enterprise, power plant which would enhance local economic prosperity and ensure power stability in the Luzon grid, Garcia said.
He stressed that the country’s largest food conglomerate, San Miguel Corporation (SMC) is opting to convert about 500 hectares of land for the expansion of its feeds manufacturing and packaging facilities near the boundary of Mariveles and Bagac towns.
He pointed out, however, the provincial government’s foremost crusade of protecting the environment remains the top agenda in motivating investors to participate in the socio-economic development of the historical peninsula.
Reports showed that SMC may spend about 60 billion pesos for the development of another ecozone and construction of another 600 MW coal-fired power plant, the second fossil fuel powered plant in Bataan owned by the food manufacturing corporation.
The first 600 MW coal fired power plant of SMC is located in the industrial village of Lamao, Limay town, this province which became operational last November 2015.
