Newly-designated Bataan police director P/Col. Joel K. Tampis, Jr. disclosed on Monday that serving in his own province has more advantages than disadvantages.
Col. Tampis who hails from Mariveles had his first breakfast with the local media people in his quarters last November 2, barely hours before typhoon Rolly left the country after its brief onslaught in the Bicol region and adjacent Quezon province.
Tampis who also served as police chief of Mariveles town and Balanga City said the advantages of being police director of Bataan are: that he knows the drug personalities in the area, he knows the people to talk to about certain police issues in the locality, and he knows the terrain of the province, as well.
“Now the disadvantage as they say is that what if some personalities involved in a crime are friends or close acquaintances. Well, this had been my job, my profession and I have to keep it to the best of my effort to maintain my integrity. In other words, trabaho lang tayo dito,” he explained.
Tampis vowed to eradicate all kinds of criminalities including illegal drugs in the province. He admitted though that the PNP had been trying hard to maintain a drug-free society. “Hindi naman natin aga-agad malilinis yan, meron pa din mangilanngilan jan,” he added.
