Ten World War ll veterans receive U.S. Congressional Gold Medals

BALANGA CITY, Bataan- Ten (10) World War II veterans, six of them personally attended while four others posthumously received the United States Congressional Gold Medals during the awarding rites held the other day at Emiliana hall, Barangay Tenejero, this City.
The surviving veterans are Private First Class (PFC s’) Florentino Platero, Macario Roque, Rogel Viray, Leopoldo Gunsay, Francisca dela Fuente and Democrito Domingo .While the four others who were posthumously awarded are PFC Lewe Domingo, Staff Sergeant Gabriel Layug, Captain Quirico Evangelista and Major Pedro Quezon.

Among the guests during the awarding of the U.S. Congressional Gold Medal were Assistant Director Kevin Mcallister of the United States Department of Veterans Affairs; Undersecretary Reynaldo Mapagu for Civil Veterans and Retiree Affairs of the Department of Defense and Undersecretary Ernesto Carolina, administrator of the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office.
Bataan Representative Jose Enrique S. Garcia lll of the province’s 2nd Congressional District delivered his welcome address during the occasion .
The Congressional Gold Medal ,the highest civilian honor given by the US Congress, is collectively awarded to the Filipno veterans of World War ll for their distinguished achievements and contributions during World War ll.
The first awarding of the U.S. Congressional medals to World War ll Filipino veterans was held on October 25 ,2017 at Washington D.C. in United States of America, a year later, the first awarding in the country was held on September 13, 2018 at the United States Embassy in Roxas Boulevard ,Manila.
