PILAR, Bataan – Who says that drug dependents can’t go back to normal life and even excel? This is how the Bataan Treatment and Rehabilitation Center (TRC) in this town, headed by Dr. Liz Pizarro-Serrano is trying to work out and achieve among their rehabilitated drug dependents, through photography and music video competition.

According to Dr. Liz Serrano, the Drug Abuse Prevention and Control program is an annual activity of the DOH and treatment and rehabilitation centers nationwide held every 3rd week of November. For this year, they decided to focus on the artistic talents of their patients through musical and photography skills.

Dr. Serrano added that in the previous years, they conducted lectures in different barangays about drug awareness, prevention, poster and slogan making contests. Last year (2016), she said that they were amazed to see a lot of people who participated in their “Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Color Run 2016,” a 4-5 km distance run from the Provincial Tourism Center up to Vista Mall at the Roman Superhighway.

Inspired by this, overwhelming response from the people and drawing awareness from the people who showed interest to participate in their activity, this year they thought of a different project and came up with the music video and photography contest.

With the full cooperation of their 95 personnel at the Bataan TRC, Dr, Serrano said that they opened the competition not only among their clients but to all the people in the community,  ages 14 years old and above, and a Bataeno, with cash prizes of 10K for the 1st prize, 7K for the 2nd prize and 5K for the 3rd prize in the music video category while 5K for 1st place, 3K for 2nd place and 2K for 3rd place in the photography level.

Serrano added that she was suprised to see a lot of guests, filling the ballroom of Lou-is Restaurant. The successful was event was graced by Hermosa Mayor Jopet Inton, Samal Mayor Gene dela Fuente, who served as one of the judges, MBDA GM Charlie Pizarro, guests from TRC-Tagaytay, TRC-Mindanao, showbiz personalities like Dinky Do and Ms, Jackie Aquino of “DAD- Durugin Ang Droga” along with other personalities and constituents from Bataan.
