Veterinary office continues stern monitoring of poultry farms in Bataan

BALANGA CITY, Bataan – The Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) has assured the public of the continued strict implementation of detailed mechanical and chemical fly infestation program to safeguard the health and well-being of the residents.
Mrs. Trinidad Tallorin, assistant chief of the Provincial Veterinary Office, has explained that the Agency has applied integrated pest control management approaches to 106 poultry farms in the eleven towns and one component city and have them acquired compliance certificates from environment and natural resources and pertinent documents on sanitary aspect of animal diseases infestation and control .
Mrs. Tallorin has reiterated that the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) staff had undergone extensive trainings on poultry farm monitoring system of identifying the threat of fly, bird flu and other zoonotic bacteria which may affect upland residents adjacent to the poultry farms.
She cited the level of fly infestation is inevitable on poultry farms, however, fly numbers in pest proportion usually indicate systematic failures of the owners or operators to provide adequate manure management, failure to check excessive moisture levels in and around sheds ,failure to clean up spilled or spoiled feed or soiled straw beddings, poor management of compost files, ineffective use of pesticides, poor maintenance of poultry structure and watering system.
The presence of large number of flies have irritated farm workers and residents near the poultry farms mostly located in the hilly sections of the province, have somehow affected the production goal and reputation of the business owners , Mrs. Tallorin said.
Reports showed that nuisance fly number can quickly build up when they have access to litter, spoiled feed and bedding materials.
Highly-qualified veterinarians from the province, Dinalupihan town and Balanga City have greatly contributed to the effective control and mode of transmission of chicken diseases to other poultry farms and nearby communities.
A veterinary inspection team headed by Dr. Danval Mclyn Molina of the PVO has undertaken procedural test analysis in different poultry farms to evaluate the situation ,quality of chicken products and other safety measures for the benefits of consumers and markets.
