Vice Governor Cris Garcia cited the role of science and technology in attaining Bataan’s vision, the highest Human Development Index (HDI) in the country.
This was one of the key points she delivered in her message during the opening on Tuesday of 3-day 2019 National Science and Technology Week in Central Luzon held at Vista Mall, Balanga City. She also represented Gov. Abet Garcia in the event.
“In the province of Bataan, we recognize the importance of science and technology to achieve our vision”, she told guests and participants led by DOST Secretary Fortunato Dela Pena.
“We have a scholarship program that already produced many graduates”, she mentioned.
“We should embrace science and technology innovation to improve our way of living”, the vice governor later said in a press conference.
She also divulged the governor wants ecozones in all 12 towns of the province. HDI is a composite statistic of life expectancy, education, and per capita income indicators, which are used to rank countries or provinces into four tiers of human development.
For the past years, Bataan places within the top 5 in the HDI ranking.
For his part, Dela Pena said that the young generation must be enticed into science-based farming.
“Imagine the average age of our farmers is 58”, he said.
