ORANI, Bataan- The Philippine National Police on Friday initiated a unity walk, inter-faith prayer rally and signing of peace covenant for candidates in 29 barangays of Orani, Bataan.

“Ito’y isang proyekto ng PNP para sa kapayapaan at matiwasay na eleksiyon,” said Chief Insp. Arnel Dial, Orani police chief.

Joining the Orani police in the project were the Holy Rosary Parish Church, the Commission on Elections and the Department of Interior and Local Government.

Comelec officer Rosasana Cruz said 72 candidates for punong barangay and 564 for kagawad participated in the activity. Only a punong barangay and seven kagawad are to be elected for each of the 29 barangays in Orani.

The candidates in varied colors of shirts walked along the commercial district to the Holy Rosary Church where a Holy Mass was held.

Father Santos Detablan, parish priest, urged candidates for the holding of a clean and honest election. “Tanggapin ang hatol ng bayan sapagka’t talagang may natatalo at nananalo,” he said.

Signing of covenant for “Secure and Fair Election (SAFE)” followed.
