PG-ENRO hosts ICM orientation

BALANGA CITY, Bataan – The Provincial Government – Environment and Natural Resources Office (PG-ENRO) conducted an orientation about the Integrated Coastal Management (ICM) program on February 23 and 24, 2017 at the Conference Room, Bulwagan ng Bayan, Capitol Compound, this City.

With the theme “National Strategy for Sustainable Development of the Coastal and Marine Areas and Resources”, one of the event’s aims is to provide the 11 municipalities and 1 city and members of the ICM program Technical Working Group (TWG) and Bataan Coastal Care Foundation Inc. (BCCF) a basic understanding of the ICM concept, framework, and process and how their application in Bataan has strengthened the governance for sustainable development of the coastal areas.

There are around 50 participants in the said event, specifically the MENROs and MPDOs of 1 city and 11 municipalities, ICM program management staff, ICM program TWG, selected BCCF members, selected people’s organizations (POs).

During the first day, a background and objectives of the orientation were discussed. A series of talks were conducted: Ms. Nancy Bermas (PEMSEA Resource Facility) on the ICM as national strategy for sustainable development of the coastal and marine areas and resources, and the ICM framework and process, Engr. Alexander Baluyot (PPDO) on the overview of the Bataan ICM program, Mr. Allan Victorino (BCCFI/Petron Foundation) on the private sector participation in ICM implementation in Bataan, and Ms. Eugenia Galves (MPDCO, Bagac) on Coastal Resources Management (CRM) planning at the municipality level.

The last day started on the recap of the previous day’s highlights and learning. Another batch of speakers were present: Mr. Roland James Enriquez (ICM management staff) who discussed about the Coastal Use zoning as spatial representation of Bataan sustainable development strategy, Ms. Nancy Bermas (PEMSEA Resource Facility) on the state of coast: measuring and reporting progress in ICM implementation, and Engr. Victor Ubaldo (PG-ENRO/Bataan ICM) on sustaining the ICM.
