PSA Bataan partners with BPSU for 28th National Statistics Month

PILAR, Bataan – The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Bataan Provincial Statistical Office in partnership with Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU), through the Research and Development Office (RDO) conducted series of research paper presentations in celebration of the 28th National Statistics Month  held at PSA Bataan Training Room, Bataan Government Center, this town last October 20 and 24, 2017.

With the theme “FACTS AND FIGURES FOR THE FUTURE: Statistics for evidence-based Decision towards Ambisyon Natin 2040”, PSA, BPSU and various private and government agencies enjoin to discuss the importance of statistics in different sectors.

The following researches were presented by their respective authors:

1.    Community Participatory Action Research – Integrated Rice Based cum Sweet Potato And Slaughter Goat Production in Bataan, by Hermogenes M. Paguia, Rudy Flores, Gregorio J. Rodis, Annalyn II R. Esaga, Kristine Joy G. Roque, Jonathan M. Salas was presented by Rudy Flores, Vice President Research ET, BPSU ( in behalf of  Hermogenes M. Paguia, Ph.D., Director, Research and Development Office, BPSU on October 20, 2017. Co author Kristine Joy G. Roque of BPSU RDO was also present during the session.

2.    Promoting Science Based Coral Reef Management in Bataan and Zambales for Sustainable Marine Life and underwater tourism by Rudy C. Flores, Hermogenes M. Paguia, Romualdo de Guzman, Digna de Guzman and Nomer N. Varua was presented by Rudy Flores, Vice President Research ET, BPSU on October 20, 2017.

3.    Sourcing Tourism Manpower Behind Bars: Tourism Industry Oriented Skills Training in Provincial Jail was presented by its authors Bernadeth B. Gabor, Ph.D, Dean, College of Technology, BPSU and Nomer Varua, BPSU faculty member on October 24, 2017

4.    Utilization of Busted CFL in Developing Cheap And Efficient Segmented Compact LED Bulbs was presented by Nelson S. Andres, BPSU on October 24, 2017.

BPSU also extended its support to 28th NSM in participating in sessions as reactors. Dr. Thelma D. Manansala, Head, Department of Arts and Sciences, BPSU and Dr. Rachel C. Reyes-Laureano, Dean College of Social Sciences and Behavior and GAD Member, BPSU served as reactors on Lecture on Gender and Sex Aggregated Statistics on October 25, 2017. On the other hand, students of BPSU College of Nursing and Midwifiery in coordination with Dean Ruby S. Matibag, served as participant during the 28th NSM Closing Ceremony held at Crown Royal Hotel, Balanga City, Bataan.

The presentations are existing researches which were previously presented in local and international forum and conferences. These are presented for PSA in the celebration of the 28th NSM to create awareness in the use of statistics in the fields of Education, Health, Tourism, Agriculture and among others.

The NSM is aimed to: a) promote, enhance and instill nationwide awareness and appreciation of the importance and value of statistics to the different sectors of society: and b) elicit cooperation and support of the general public in upgrading the quality and standard of statistics in the country.
