ORANI, Bataan – Local environmentalists described as unique for Orani Water District to implement a sustainable reforestation program in the upland Barangay Tala watershed area.
“I think it is not usual for a water district to implement tree-planting program”, OWD General Manager Benni Andres commented when this writer shared to him that local environmentalists find the program unique.
“We conducted last year our 6th year annual planting activity. Yearly we are planting 10,000 tibig specie seedlings”.
“We have already planted 60,000 trees in upland Tala”, the general manager further said.
In celebrating its anniversary every February for the past 6 years, OWD has been sponsoring fun run for a cause to raise fund for the reforestation program.
“We have to protect and preserve our source of water by reforesting watershed areas,” Andres pointed out.
The reforestation program of OWD covering 28 hectares watershed area, which is part of Bataan National Park, has been attracting the support of volunteers from various sectors.
