BALANGA CITY, Bataan – Persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) still get education inside Bataan District Jail.
“We have a partnership project with the DepEd that provide education to our PDLs here inside the jail. They get elementary or high school education thru the Alternative Learning System (ALS) program of the department”, said Jail Superintendent Andrew Tauli, Bataan District Jail warden during the recent ALS graduation of 52 male and 14 female PDLs.
The graduation ceremony held inside the jail facility was a spirited one with graduates wearing toga and relatives attending.
“For the current school year 70 PDLs are enrolled; 39 in high school and 31 in elementary”, the jail warden said.
“There are 325 PDLs here in the district jail who already graduated since the start of the program in 2013”, he also said.
Skills training and livelihood activities aimed at improving the lives of PDLs are also being conducted inside the jail under Tauli’s leadership.
