Mrs. Jean Wolf, daughter of Rear Admiral James Charles Dempsey, an American World War II veteran, a submariner stationed in the Philippines during the war, visited Bataan and paid a courtesy call to Governor Abet Garcia, together with her husband Mr. Donald Wolf.
Upon arrival, they first visited the Bataan World War II Museum inside the compound of the Balanga Elementary School. They also visited the World War II underground museum at the Shrine of Valor in Mt. Samat where the guests had a glimpse of the hardships and atrocities suffered by the soldiers and the people alike during the war. Gov. Abet also toured them inside The Bunker building, the design of which aims to pay tribute to veterans, and honor the heroism and valor of everyone involved in the war.
Incidentally, Mrs. Wolf is writing a book about her father’s exploits and heroism during the war and this visit to the Philippines will be very helpful in completing the book,
As a gesture of Filipino hospitality, Gov. Abet gave the visitors glass tokens of The Bunker a gesture which Mrs. Wolf returned by donating a replica of her father’s Navy Cross that Admiral Dempsey earned for his heroic feat in rescuing nurses in Corregidor Island in May 1942.
