The municipal government of Mariveles and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) have agreed to remove and dispose solid waste material deposits within the Aguawan River that leads to the popularly known Aguawan Beach.
Mariveles Mayor Jocelyn P. Castaneda and Raul H. Mamac, provincial environment and natural resources officer (PENRO) signed the memorandum at the mayor’s office last Monday.
Under the agreement, the DENR will provide the P1 million for the project under the Manila Bay Rehabilitation Program while the municipal government had submitted program of work and financial plan.
The DENR will conduct testing of extracted waste to determine presence of heavy metals and contaminants and identify a suitable third -party fill material for the extraction, transportation and placement of solid waste materials deposits.
The local government of Mariveles shall closely coordinate with the Penro technical staff counterpart in the implementation and completion of the project.
