Herminio Miguel is the Director of the Bataan Peninsula State University Abucay campus while Lacayanga and Valdez are both faculty members of BPSU Abucay. All four experts are based in Bataan.
Calderon said that for two weeks, they conducted discussion and demonstration sessions in the ravaged communities in Eastern and Western Visayas. They also demonstrated fabrications of vertical fed biomass cooking stove.
Lacayanga developed the cooking stove, in response to the problems of household air pollution or indoor air pollution.
Calderon also said that they distributed open pollinated vegetable seed varieties and 10 kilograms aerobic rice variety to each participant.
He said with the knowledge they imparted and the seeds they distributed, typhoon survivors can start farming in their respective areas.
Calderon said they were tapped by the United Church of Christ in the Philippines (UCCP) in its effort to help rehabilitate Yolanda-affected areas.
UCCP Bishop Dulce Pia-Rose heads the East Visayas Jurisdiction of the Church. On the other hand, Bishop Jaime Moriles is in charge of the West Visayas Jurisdiction. UCCP National Program Coordinator Ric Jontarciego contacted Calderon’s group. (Butch Gunio)
