The whole day activity was attended by department heads and representatives from all the departments of the provincial government.
“Facebook or FB is part of our daily lives. At present there are at least 30 million Facebook users in the Philippines. Forty percent of its users are aged 18-24; 25-34-year-olds comprise 26% and 11% of it are 35 to 44-year-olds,” Loyola told the provincial government employees.
Based on statistics, almost 5 Filipinos open an “FB” account per minute. Among the two most popular social media sites in work places, Facebook users comprise 42% of professional users while 5% of them use Twitter, he added.
Facebook is available in all devices with powerful notification system, stable platform, playful graphical user interface (GUI), easy to understand and signifies global presence.
Under the new system of information exchange within the provincial government, each department created its own Facebook account and joined a “secret group” called the “Bataan Capitol Intranet.”
The Bataan Capitol Intranet portal is a secret group on Facebook that was created in line with the implementation of the province’s flagship projects under the Performance Governance System (PGS).
The province, under the leadership of Governor Albert Garcia along with Vice Governor Efren Pascual, Jr. and the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (provincial council) members, is determined in adopting an efficient project management/monitoring tool and a system to improve communication among the employees and departments.
The new system also aims to improve inter-office communication and bridge the information gap in annex offices of provincial government; and, as a project management and monitoring tool, to easily track progress of projects/programs and lastly, it also serves as a micro site to inform everyone about the latest happenings in their respective departments.
By using this system, the province has saved a huge amount of money because Facebook use is free.
Loyola said that the development or acquisition of a software used in an intranet system is very expensive compared to minimal expenditures in having an internet provider for all the departments of the Capitol.
