Heartfelt Gesture Deepens PH-Korea Ties at CNGYL Graduation

BALANGA CITY — A traditional Korean gesture of profound respect became the defining moment of the ChungNam Global Youth Leadership (CNGYL) Program graduation, signaling a strengthening bond between the Philippines and South Korea.

The ceremony, held on February 12, 2026, at the La Vista Inland Resort, transcended standard protocol when Mr. Hwang Hwan Taek, President of the ChungNam Institute for Lifelong Education, took the stage. Addressing a diverse assembly of graduates, educators, and community leaders, Hwang emphasized that true education is rooted in mutual dependence rather than just academic knowledge.

In a move that moved the audience, Mr. Hwang performed a traditional Korean deep bow, kneeling before the Filipino hosts. The gesture was a formal tribute to the hospitality and “authentic regard” shown to Korean students within the Schools Division Office (SDO) of Balanga City.

“This modest yet compelling act lingered greatly with everyone… a reminder that intercultural interfacing is founded on shared humanity,” Superintendent Dr. Roland Fronda stated.

The SDO Balanga City has emerged as a hub for global education, transforming local venues into “living classrooms” for international exchange. According to the program organizers, the Cultural Immersion provided the Korean students to integrate into Filipino culture while focusing on English language proficiency. While students gained independence, they reportedly left with a sense of indebtedness to the “Filipino soul” and its resilient, cordial nature. The program involved active participation from local school communities, parents, and learners.

The Dr. Fronda noted that hosting the international cohort was a strategic move to shape young minds who understand that “the world is interrelated, and that peace and success start with empathy”.

The CNGYL graduation marks a significant milestone in the partnership between the two nations. Officials expressed hope that Mr. Hwang’s gesture would serve as a “gateway” to further collaborative opportunities and strengthened cultural bridges founded on mutual respect.
