Young members of the Tubo-tubo Fisherfolks Association strengthened their digital literacy and environmental stewardship skills through the “Youth EcoSkills on Digital Literacy and Coastal Conservation” program spearheaded by AboitizPower through its subsidiaries GNPower Mariveles Energy Center and GNPower Dinginin on May 7 to 8.
Held at the Tubo-tubo Function Hall in Orani, the two-day initiative was conducted in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Orani and the Provincial Government Environment and Natural Resources Office, transforming the venue into a hub for youth leadership, innovation, and community action.
The program featured sessions on mangrove protection, the Fisheries Code, and environmental stewardship, alongside practical workshops on Microsoft Office, Canva, public speaking, and teambuilding aimed at strengthening participants’ leadership and digital skills.
PG-ENRO Environmental Management Specialist Mistylyn Gutierrez emphasized the importance of engaging youth in environmental governance, saying the initiative helps bridge traditional community knowledge with modern advocacy tools to sustain local conservation efforts.
For AboitizPower, the initiative reflects its broader commitment to supporting host communities beyond plant operations. GMEC-GNPD Reputation and Stakeholder Management Manager Joseph Paolo Mendoza said the program creates opportunities for local communities while promoting environmental responsibility.
Participants said the training deepened their understanding of environmental protection and community service, with many noting that the blend of digital and conservation skills empowered them to take a more active role in building safer and more sustainable communities in Bataan.
