Lions Club International Bataan turns 46

CITY of BALANGA, Bataan – Gov. Abet Garcia graced the 46th Founding anniversary and 45th Induction Ball of the Lions Club International Bataan Chapter held at the Crown Royale Hotel last Wednesday, November 5 this City.

In his message, Gov. Abet traced the history of the Club, describing it as long, proud and dynamic, earning the distinction of being the world’s largest and most effective service club organization.

Just recently, The Lions Club International Foundation and the Provincial Government of Bataan signed a Memorandum of Agreement which coincided with the inauguration of the Eye Center at the Bataan General Hospital, as part of its “Eye Care Program”.

This Eye Center is a living testimony of the Lions Club International’s genuine commitment to its SightFirst Program, a response to the challenge posed by Helen Keller when she addressed the Lions Club International Convention in Ohio in 1925 on eradicating blindness.

Governor Abet likewise the challenged his fellow Lions Club members, borrowing Helen Keller’s words, for each and every one of them to become “knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness.”  He said, the word “blind” refers to our less fortunate brothers and sisters while “darkness” pertains to the social ills that plague our society such as poverty.
