CITY of BALANGA, Bataan – Forty senior citizens from the 15 municipalities and 3 cities of Albay paid a courtesy call to Gov. Abet S. Garcia this morning at the Bulwagan ng Bayan, this City.
The senior citizens, accompanied by 3 staff from the Provincial Social Welfare & Development Office (PSWDO) of Albay were here as part of their 4-day Interactive Visit. Their first stop was in Bulacan. Here in Bataan, they were welcomed by the staff of the Bataan Tourism Center. They then proceeded to the Bataan Provincial Social Welfare & Development Office where they were treated to a sumptuous lunch and gift packs containing the products of Bataan.
What followed was a lively and fruitful exchange of best practices on the programs and services concerning the senior citizens of the two provinces. Mrs. Marilyn Tigas, PSWDO head of Bataan gave them an overview as to how Bataan garnered the national award for the Best Local Government Unit implementing DSWD programs and services, in the recently concluded GAPAS Awards.
The heads of the Federation of Senior Citizens Association of the Philippines (FSCAP-Bataan) and the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA-Bataan) were also present to welcome their counterparts from Albay.
Before heading home for Albay, the group grabbed the rare opportunity to visit the world renowned Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar in Bagac.
Times like this, seeing these senior citizens, having the time of their lives, going places, meeting people, learning from each other, with the full support of the government, I would say, “life begins at 60”. “I can’t wait to have my own Senior Citizen card and begin to enjoy the perks of being 60 and up”.
