Bataan all set for record breaking Green Legacy Program

BALANGA CITY, Bataan – Bataan Governor Abet Garcia in a recent media interview said that the provincial government is now preparing to break the current Guinness World Record on most number of trees planted in one single site within one hour.

Recently, the Provincial Government-Environment and Natural Resources Office (PG-ENRO) held an organizational and consultation meeting at the Bataan Peninsula State University-Main Campus, Conference 1.

“As of the moment we are preparing for the Bataan Green Legacy Program wherein we are inviting 8,000-10,000 volunteers to plant 400,000 seedlings in an hour. One person will be tasked to plant at least forty seedlings,” Governor Garcia told 1Bataan.com. The activity is entitled “Comprehensive Tree Planting Program: Green Legacy for Bataeños” wherein the province will have the official attempt on June 24, 2016.

The current Guinness record holder for this environmental activity is India, particularly in Mansa, Punjab, where they were able to plant 208,751 trees with 5,928 volunteers last October 30, 2015.

The massive tree planting activity will be at the 200 hectare Community Based Forest Management area of SAMAKALUGEN, Inc. in General Lim, Orion, Bataan.

The program aims publicize the solidarity of the people of Bataan in action, stewardship and conservation of the environment, support the national greening program through public-private partnership, promote awareness on the importance of planting trees and environmental responsibility of all sectors, and to achieve the highest survival rate of trees planted.
