Bataan celebrates Women’s Month

Bataan celebrates Women’s Month

The Provincial Government of Bataan (PGB) observed International Women’s Day last March 6 with a series of activities geared at recognizing the contributions of women and promoting awareness on women’s rights.

The celebration started with a foot parade participated in by employees of the Provincial Government, symbolizing solidarity and support for women’s empowerment. The main program followed held at the Bataan People’s Center anchored on the theme “Lead Like the Babaylans, Filipinas!”

Provincial government employees attended the event, majority of whom are women, though several male employees also participated to express their support for gender equality and the continued recognition of the vital role of women in society.

In his message, Governor Jose Enrique “Joet” Garcia III emphasized that women should not only be appreciated and valued during Women’s Day but every day. He highlighted the role of mothers as the “light of the home,” noting their dedication, compassion, and sacrifice for their respective families. He also likened modern-day women to the babaylans of pre-colonial times who served as leaders and guides within their communities.

An important part of the program, was a discussion on Republic Act 9262, or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act, aimed at strengthening awareness on the protection of women and children against abuse.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Government Employees Association (PAGE) Bataan provided wellness activities for provincial government employees. The first 150 women employees who registered online received complimentary drinks and coffee, while free massage, haircut, manicure, and pedicure services were also offered.

The Provincial Government of Bataan, through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), continues to push programs that promote the protection and welfare of women and help reduce if not totally eradicate cases of violence against women and children in the province.
